Skint / Soaked / Audio Forensic (Confused Machines Mix) [feat. Mutante Frequante]

A 1 track leftfield/idm single (5m 34s) — released June 23rd 2023 on La Sape

Julian Culpan / Mutante Frequante also released music as Magmafinder, Señor Culprit, MuteFreak, Transient Threat and Whyndam Earl & The Golden Idols. He was active from the formative Melbourne "summer of love" era of early rave, before moving to Sydney in the mid 90s to pursue his ongoing exploration of gonzo industrial and proto electronica sounds, coining his own material 'Tronic Voodoo'. In the era he made this remix, he was working with only two machines, and Akai MPC 2000 and and Akai S2000, hand carving source material into fragments and reconstituting them in a hardware-only process a decade or more before computers put these tools in the hands of the masses. He performed alongside Aphex Twin, Alec Empire, Laurent Garnier and Kid 606 among others and was deeply Involved in the infamous Sydney free party breakcore crew System Corrupt.

Skint / Soaked / Audio Forensic (Confused Machines Mix) is the second single from Nice Coordinated Outfit, a career spanning retrospective into High Pass Filter's output released by La Sape Records. The compilation is a journey through history to a time before the internet and social media and before inner city gentrification, when Fitzroy was the beating heart of Australia's avant-garde music and culture. Musically, it showcases the band's incredible range from deep minimal dub to bizarre electronica with elements of shoegaze and experimental noise. Back then, High Pass Filter were the kings of the Fitzroy underground. Dark, weird improvisers who aimed for something new each performance, an approach which resonates with much of the underground and experimental music still being made in Melbourne today.

This sounds like something so good that is the reason why ppl say things like 'they don't make music like this anymore'. - Kerem Gokmen Dubmission

Cool track! - Tony Thorpe Club

Incredible that an electro-dub band formed in Melbourne that was active from 1995–2006 with obvious Aphex Twin/Autechre/Sherwood/DJ Shadow leanings sounds so fresh and now. Many thanks. - Gerry Hectic Futuristica Music

DEEP HEAVY ISH! Bonkers!!! - Jeff Daniels Club

Nice oldschool electro vibes! - Fine Cut Bodies Chi

Wow, great stuff! - Eliana Ben-David Eol Radio
